After Coal

"After Coal" is a feature length documentary and community engagement project that explores the coal mining communities of South Wales and Appalachia.

I was asked to design the logo for both the website and the film. Being that this is both a documentary project as well as and educational community project with many corresponding facets, I designed some alternative logos and stand alone symbols that could be used to highlight certain sections of this project depending on the client's need.

This is a project that focuses on mining and how it is evolving into a greener, more
eco-friendly profession and the transitional challenges therein. It uses south Wales and Appalachia as a backdrop and focuses on their two different approaches to mining. The winding wheel (mining equipment) and mountains (Appalachia), nature and machine, are the main graphical focal points for the design.
