Ventana is the solo debut CD from jazz guitarist, Ken Karsh.

My creative partner at Isaac Rullo Conceptual Artistry, Brent Isaac, has had the privilege of being invited to "sit in" and photograph the studio recordings and jam sessions with some of the talented jazz musicians from our area. Over the years, Brent has amassed a collection of imagery from his attendence at these performances. Ken Karsh approached Brent after one of these sessions to ask about the possibility of using some of his exisiting photography on the packaging of Ventana. It was during that conversation that Brent mentioned my design skills to Ken. 

Together, we designed a package that embraced the style of the black & white photography reminiscent of the classic Blue Note album covers while incorporating that imagery into a modern design. A color palette of blues and pinks and purples blended together in overlapping vertical strips makes up the overall design scheme. This was a visual interpretation of harmony, musicality, and blending of sounds present in the music as well as a way to symbolically mimic the lines and shape of guitar strings. The "Ken Karsh" logotype of the CD's front cover was hand drawn to compliment the lined design theme as well as match the other illustrative elements of overall packaging.

The guitar illustration on the CD and the inner tray was hand drawn rendering of the CDs front cover.
